We have lift off! – BMW CCG Racing Series

The BMW CCG Club Racing Series will kick off its fourth season at Kyalami on 9 March 2014 at the Bridgestone BMW Track and Race Day. The series is one of the few remaining independently run championships with the majority of rounds taking place at the Club’s own track days- the Kyalami events have proven to be the most popular. BMW Car Club Gauteng
Citizen Motoring road test guru and scribe Mark Jones left the 2013 season the proud owner of the number 1 plate and bragging rights of being crowned champion even though he ran in the feeder class. His presence this year will unfortunately be missed but his victories have left an indelible legacy that many will try to emulate. The fact that he won this championship from the lower rung of the field speaks volumes about the Series’ ability to provide close, competitive and fun racing for any budget.
At the sharper end of the field though, the action is just as spectacular. Some of the quickest and most brutal machinery is being prepared for this club championship. The likes of Kris Budnik in his V8 powered M3 GT, Lee Thompson in the insane 335i known better as ‘Boris the Animal’ spring to mind. Soon enough though BMW tuning mastermind Sav Gualtieri will be back with a more modern version of ‘The Judge’ to reclaim his title of the Fastest BMW in South Africa, if not the world.
The new season sees many familiar faces doing battle, such as the duel of our two main sponsors Team G&H Transport and Team MBS Carriers. Both have some new weapons in the arsenal, including a highly tuned 135i and the only M3 CSL GTR we know of. New faces to the series include previous club chairman Troy Cochran, newbie Stefano Martinelli and Werner Koekemoer who has swapped the gravel of the regional rally championship for the tarmac of the BMW Club Series.
As always, this event promises close, exciting racing with unrivalled levels of camaraderie the drivers are attracted to year after year. The track day kicks off at 08:00 in the morning with the two races scheduled for 13:00 and 15:00 respectively. Entry to spectators is free, and anyone over the age of 12 can ride shotgun around Kyalami for just R100 in the Bridgestone Hot Lap Vehicles. Please note though that long pants and closed shoes are compulsory for this.

BMW CCG Club Racing Series – A new era in SA club racing

The Gauteng based BMW Car Club have certainly proven to be a force to be reckoned with over the past few years. The close and competitive nature of the series has put them in good stead amongst local racing circles, with experienced competitors and established racing categories taking note of this successful club racing series. With a proud and professional team running and managing the series, the BMW CCG Club Racing Championship has become one of the most exciting grass roots Motorsport series in South Africa. BMW Car Club Gauteng
The first event of the 2014 season is set to take place at the historic Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on 9 March at the Bridgestone BMW Track and Race Day.
The new BMW Track School will give drivers with a love of motorsport the opportunity to gain valuable experience and track time under the watchful eye of driving instructors and racing drivers.
The popular time trial series will proceed throughout the day as it has over the past few years, with any make and model of vehicle welcome to push the limits within the safe and controlled confines of the race track. As an added bonus the top 10 fastest cars will automatically be entered into a Time Attack shootout at the end of the programme of events. The cars will be timed from a standing start across the finish line with trophies and bragging rights for the winners up for grabs.
The highlight of the day will undoubtedly be the first round of the MSA sanctioned BMW CCG Club Racing Series, which is set to take place with not one, but two action packed races scheduled for the day! Experienced campaigners from previous years, as well as a few new faces will be getting ready for battle in what promises to be a hotly contested race day.
Entry fees start at R900 for Time Trial entrants. Full event details and entry fees can be found on the Club website www.BMWCarClub.co.za. The action kicks off at 08:00 AM and entrance to the circuit as a spectator is free. Food and beverages will be readily available for purchase in the pit complex area.
For just R100, spectators will be able to experience the thrill of motorsport by being allowed to accompany a professional driver in the Bridgestone Hot Lap vehicles – provided that they have long pants and a long sleeved top. Helmets are provided for passengers in the Bridgestone Hot Lap Vehicles. The obligatory indemnity form will need to be signed and completed as well.
If you are interested in joining or attending the first event of the year please forward your details to Click-to-Reveal@bmwcarclub.co.za. Further correspondence will be sent to you.
Be there and don’t miss out!

BMW Car Club Track Days = bonus track time

The BMW Car Club Gauteng track days have earned a reputation for being professionally run, well attended and most importantly tons of fun. In a strategic shift, these days are being opened up to the greater South African Motorsport fraternity. BMW Car Club Gauteng
During our time trial sessions, we have created a dedicated session for saloon cars that are race prepared or compete in a club, regional or national category. Overtaking in corners is allowed, as is defending your racing line. The only prohibition is contact between cars which will result in a black flag and a visit to the CoC for all drivers involved in an incident. We provide the transponder, or you can use your own if you wish. Passengers are allowed in these sessions as long as they are clothed in long pants, long sleeves, a helmet and gloves.
Typical track time will be 2 hours that is spread over the day. You are also automatically entered into the Time Attack Top 10 shootout, as long as you make the cut of course. At the end of the day, we take the 10 fastest cars of the day and time them from a standing start to the finish line. Trophies and bragging rights are up for grabs.
This is a great opportunity to get some extra track time with the benefit of a simulated race environment to hone your skills. It also provides a unique yard stick to compare your car with different drivers and cars from different formulas. With passengers being allowed, it gives you a chance to treat your sponsors, friends and families to hot laps around the circuits in your race car.
If you are interested in joining in these sessions, please forward your details to Click-to-Reveal@bmwcarclub.co.za to be added to our mailing list. Below are the dates and entry fees for the events being held this year:
