Pre Race: Alfa Trofeo Racing – Round 6 – Phakisa Freeway

The Alfa Trofeo Racing Series will head to the dusty plains of the Phakisa Freeway circuit in Welkom on Saturday 15 August for the sixth round of the 2015 championship. The new sprint racing format continues to gain interest amongst competitors, with the new classes allowing everyone a chance of walking away with some silverware as well.

Things at the top of the leader board have changed quite a bit after the previous Zwartkops event. Defending Champion Anthony Theobald (Alfa Giulia) and Jose de Carvalho (155) are now tied on points for first position. Early season leader Gerrit Faling (GTV) drops back to third position after missing a few events due to various mechanical issues.

John Hendriks (Sud) leapfrogs into fourth position with Ralph Kernes (Alfetta) tied on points with him as well. Kyle Viljoen (145) is a mere three points behind them and will be looking to make up for lost time from earlier in the season.

Phillip Hendriks (Sprint) finds himself in seventh position with Keagan Pottas (GTV) a bit further behind him. Danny Kloes (GTV) is credited with ninth position with Jacques Baartman moving into the top ten after two impressive performances at the previous event.

With a number of other capable competitors in the field, the racing is expected to be as fun and competitive as always.

  1. Anthony Theobald – 55
  2. Jose de Carvalho – 55
  3. Gerrit Faling – 45
