The second round of the 2017 Inland Championship took place at the Red Star Raceway on Saturday 11 March, with more close and competitive racing keeping race fans on their toes.

Formula Monoposto

The Formula Monoposto series set the tone for the days racing with an exciting first heat producing some interesting results. Cameron O’Connor (Formula Ford Zetec) and Karl Pitzer (Formula Ford Zetec) locked out the front row in their new generation wings and slicks Formula Ford machines. Pitzer grabbed the lead at the start with O’Connor and Sean Harrington (Formula GTI) in tow. John Maurien (Ray GTI) and new kid on the block Siyabonga Mankonkwana (Formula Vee) weren’t too far behind the leading trio with Louis van der Merwe (Formula GTI) scything his way from the back of the grid as well. O’Connor took the lead on the second lap and never looked back. Van der Merwe grabbed third position on lap five as the best of the older generation cars. O’Connor held on for the win ahead of Pitzer to take the Overall and class C honours. Pitzer took class E with van der Merwe taking class A. Michael Kernick (Formula Ford) won class D with Duncan Bosch taking the Formula M class win.

The first round of the 2017 Inland Championship took place at the Midvaal Raceway on Saturday 11 February, with close and competitive racing setting the tone for an exciting year ahead.

The tag line of ‘Real People, Real Racing’ rang true with the diverse field of categories catering to everyone’s taste.

Big Boss Auto Super Saloons

The Big Boss Auto Super Saloons category brought out the rolling thunder with two exciting races. Amos Cockerham Junior (Jaguar) grabbed pole position ahead of Devin Robertson (Chev Corvette) and series newcomer Lonika Maartens (Chev Lumina). Cockerham grabbed an early lead with Larry Wilford (Chev Lumina) and Robertson in hot pursuit after Maartens faded with electrical issues. Cockerham held on for the overall and GTA victory with JP Nortje (Tigra Spaceframe) taking GT2. Jody Vianna (Mazda RX8) took the GT3 category win with Karel Stols (Mazda RX7) taking the GT4 honours. Riaan Draper (Fiesta Spaceframe) took GT5.

Inland Championship

The 2017 Inland Championship is set to kick off at the Midvaal Raceway in Meyerton with the Amtec Race Day promising to produce some spectacular racing at the first event of the year. Northern Regions racing continues to ride the wave of success that they had last year with the ‘Real People, Real Racing’ tag line living up to its name.

The Inland Championship Roadshow is arguably the most diverse in local Motorsport circles with almost every genre of four wheel racing participating in the series.

The Big Boss Auto Super Saloons series will be looking at having another exciting season. The GTA class are expected to create more fireworks with defending champion Ben Morgenrood taking on drivers like 2016 sensation Devin Robertson, Amos Cockerham Jnr and series newcomer Lonika Maartens. The four other GT classes in the field will be looking to grow their numbers and produce even more competitive racing than last season.
