The Bridgestone / BMW CCG Club Racing Series is scheduled to make its first appearance of the year at the Zwartkops Raceway on 28 June. This popular Pretoria circuit will host the third round of the 2014 season. BMW Car Club Gauteng
The rumour mill is rife with two big name teams expected to debut their very special and unique cars. Sav Gualtieri and his team have been working flat out to try and complete their much anticipated BMW F30 race car. Another team hard at work is the ADF Motorsport stable. They are expected to debut their new BMW M6 GT race car as well. One can only hope that both teams will have enough time to complete these two monster race cars in time for the Zwartkops event!

The title chase
[singlepic id=212360 w=320 h=240 float=center]Fameliaris leads the way at the top of the leaderboard With the first two events of the season done and dusted, the overall and individual class titles are starting to develop into a close run affair. The top three drivers in the Overall Championship are only separated by only 8 points! Julian Fameliaris (E36 328i) has jumped to the top of the leader board after the second event of the year at Phakisa Freeway. Warren Dodd (E36 325i) has moved into second position – a mere four points behind the leader. Bruce Turner (E36 328i) is a further four points behind Dodd.
A string of good results from Shane Grobler (E36 328i) at the previous event have moved him up to fourth position ahead of experienced campaigners like Manny Ribeiro (E36 325i Turbo) and Carlo Garbini (E46 M3). Hein Strohm (E36 M3 GTR) finds himself in the top ten, tied on points with Garbini and Sav Gualtieri (E46 328i Turbo). Ricky Giannoccaro (E46 M3 GTR) and Daniel Koekemoer (E46 M3) round out the top ten. [singlepic id=212361 w=320 h=240 float=center]
With at least fifteen to twenty other competitors in the series expected to take to the track in anger, the racing is expected to be better than ever!

The class battles
[singlepic id=212357 w=320 h=240 float=center] Sav Gualtieri (E46 328i Turbo) leads the class A field on 18 points, with Mishal Sing (E92 M3) and Jimmy Giannoccaro (E82 135i) tied on ten points apiece.
Manny Ribeiro (E36 325i Turbo) jumps to the top of the class B leader board on 20 points. Carlo Garbini (E46 M3) is a further two points behind with Ricky Giannoccaro (E46 M3 GTR) an equal amount of points behind Garbini.
The class C battle is shaping into a two horse race at this stage. Julian Fameliaris (E36 328i) leads the class on 33 points but is only 4 points ahead of nearest rival Warren Dodd (E36 325i). Third placed Riaan Woest (E36 328i) is 14 points behind the leading duo, but has a string of competitors breathing down his neck for the remaining podium position.
Bruce Turner (E36 328i) holds onto the D class lead despite some mixed results at the previous event. Shane Grobler (E36 328i) is however only three points behind Turner, with Hein Strohm (E36 M3 GTR) a further three points behind the second placed man. Dale Penney (Nissan 350Z) still leads the Invitational Challenge Class on 11 points with Steven Platt (Nissan Skyline R33) a solitary point behind him. Duane Galloway (Nissan Skyline R32) is only two points behind his fellow Skyline racer and is still very much in with a chance of causing an upset amongst his peers.

The Beemer’s descend on The Big Z
The BMW Car Club Gauteng’s track days are immensely popular, and the next instalment at Zwartkops Raceway is only weeks away. Regular club members and racing competitors within the series are raring to go. This will be the only full BMW track day at this popular race circuit during the 2014 season so it is sure to attract many entries. BMW Car Club Gauteng
After the first two Time Trial events of the season at Kyalami and Phakisa, an exciting battle for top honours looks set for the year ahead. If you are not ready to mix it up with the real racers then this is a great opportunity for you to get yourself accustomed to racing conditions in a more controlled environment. The 10 fastest cars – the top 5 from the Time Trials and the top 5 from the Race Series, will also be entered into a special one-lap shootout that will take place at the end of the day.
To even things out a bit, the cars will be set off from a standing start as well. With trophies and bragging rights up for grabs there is plenty to fight for. Competitors from other race series are also welcome to use these events as practice in a mock race environment.
[singlepic id=212244 w=320 h=240 float=center] This event will also host the second BMW Track School of the year and will be the only time it runs at Zwartkops in 2014. Novice drivers go through a theory and practical session with the professionals from BMW Driving Experience before being let loose on their own. The highlight of the day will be the third round of the MSA sanctioned BMW CCG Club Racing Series, and talk of the town is the possible debut of the Savspeed F30. Sav has been hard at work on a highly modified version of the latest generation 3 Series, and if his reputation is anything to go by this car is going to be insane. Sav will be out for ADF blood at the top of Class A.
Entry fees start at R850 for Time Trial entrants. Full event details and entry fees can be found on the Club website www.bmwcarclub.co.za. The action kicks off at 08:00 AM and entrance to the circuit as a spectator is free. Food and beverages will be readily available for purchase in the pit complex area. For just R100, spectators can also be taken around the track by a professional driver in one of the Bridgestone Hot Lap vehicles – provided that they have long pants, a long sleeved top and a helmet supplied by the organizers. The obligatory indemnity form will need to be completed and signed as well.
