Dino Fameliaris (E36 M3 Turbo) has moved up to second place in class A
The Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series will return to the revamped Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit on Saturday 29 October for the first time since this historic motorsport venue’s reopening. This is the format where the ground-breaking series was born- it promises to be the biggest event in the clubs history
A bumper field of entries is expected to line up on the grid for this event with a few old favourites returning to the fray as well. Julian Fameliaris (E36 328i Turbo) wrapped up the class A Championship at the previous Inland Championship event but still has some work to do if he intends on taking the Overall Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series Championship title. His cousin Dino Fameliaris (E36 M3 Turbo) has moved up to second place in class A but can expect to be under pressure from the likes of Manny Ribeiro (E46 328i Turbo). Carlo Garbini (E46 328i Turbo) is expected to make a welcome return while Darren Winterboer (F30 335i Turbo) is scheduled to make his second appearance of the year as well.
The rejuvenated Inland Championship Roadshow will once again head to the Zwartkops Raceway for the seventh round of the 2016 racing season on Saturday 17 September.
If the last event at this popular venue is anything to go by the racing is sure to be fast and furious.
Devin Robertson is expected to lead the charge in the Big Boss Auto Super Saloons
Championship leader Ben Morgenrood (Ford Mustang) will once again be under pressure from Mackie Adlem (Jaguar) and Devin Robertson (Chev Corvette) in the GTA class of the Big Boss Auto Super Saloon category. Willie Hepburn (Opel Rekord) is expected to lead the GT2 class with Jody Vianna (Mazda RX8) heading up the charge in GT3. Adrian Dalton (VW Golf) is the man to beat in GT4 with Jimmy Tsimenglou (BMW M3) the class leader in GT5.
Julian Fameliaris (E36 328i Turbo) continues his assault on the class A Championship in the Bridgestone BMW Club Racing Series, but can definitely expect some tough opposition from Desmond Bloem (E36 M3 Turbo) and Julian’s cousin Dino Fameliaris (E36 M3 Turbo) who is expected to return in a greatly improved machine. The class B battle has become a lot closer with Riaan Woest (E46 M3 GTR) a mere two points ahead of Rick Loureiro (E30 3.2 CSL) after the last round. Warren Dodd (E46 M3) has also made good progress but will have to worry about an on form Jorge Estrela (E36 328i Turbo) who has been a revelation over the past few events.
The Historic Tour headed inland to the popular Phakisa Freeway circuit in Welkom for the seventh round of the 2016 season on Saturday 10 September. The day was run in memory of the late Ian Auret who contributed so much to motorsport himself.
Freddie de Kock (Porsche 911 RSR) and Philip Pantazis (Datsun IMSA 260Z) in tow
The first race for the Marlboro Crane Hire Pre-79 Historic Saloons classes A – E and Pre-84 Sports & GT and Classic Thoroughbred category saw some close racing action throughout the field. Pole man Peter Jenkins (Chevron B19) took the lead at the start of the first race with Freddie de Kock (Porsche 911 RSR) and Philip Pantazis (Datsun IMSA 260Z) in tow. Anton Raaths (Chev Camaro) had a change from his usual racing steed and was up to third a lap later. With the leaders breaking away in front the class E pack was just as close with Jackie Morrison (Ford Escort) fending of Gert Botes (Ford Escort MK 1) and Justin Ladner (Ford Capri). Raaths was on a charge and dived up the inside of de Kock coming off the back sweep on lap four to claim second.
Morrison was unlucky to retire on the same lap when oil pressure problems put paid to his chances. De Kock regained his second place on lap five while Pantazis slowed with overheating brake issues a lap later. Jenkins held on for the Overall victory ahead of de Kock and Raaths. Pantazis held on for fourth position with Fred Konig (Porsche 911 RSR) and George Avvakoumides (Porsche 911 RSR) rounding out the top six. A strong finish from John McLachlan (Datsun 1200GX) saw him take the class E honours ahead of Botes and Johan Prins (Datsun 160U).
