The fourth round of the 2016 Inland Championship was held at the Midvaal Raceway for the second time in succession on Saturday 25 June.
The racing was made that much more interesting with the event being run in an anti-clockwise direction.
A titanic battle for the lead between Langeveldt and Lawrence with the pair swapping places throughout the race
Pole man Jeff Langeveldt (Honda CRX) grabbed the lead at the start of the first Yokohama Modified Production Car race with Dirk Lawrence (Honda Ballade) and Adrian Dalton (VW Golf 1 Turbo) hot on his heels.
A titanic battle for the lead then ensued between Langeveldt and Lawrence with the pair swapping places throughout the race. Langeveldt went on to take the Overall and class A victory ahead of his team mate. Dalton crossed the line to win class B with Morne Fullard (VW Golf 2) taking class C.

Langeveldt looked set to claim an easy victory in race two but a ten second penalty dropped him back to third position, handing the Overall and class A win to Lawrence. Second Placed Dalton took the class B honours once again with Fullard doing the same in class C.
The INEX Legends Championship kept race fans on their feet once again with three action packed heats being a highlight of the days racing. Championship leader Divan Myburgh (Pro) took the lead in the first race ahead of Seef Fourie (Pro) and Anro Stadler (Semi-Pro).
Myburgh looked set to take the win but a last corner incident saw him drop back to tenth. Fourie went on to take the victory ahead of Clinton Bezuidenhout (Young Lion) and Jordan Larsson (Semi-Pro). Once again the second race saw Fourie and Myburgh in a race long battle for the lead but it was Fourie who took his second win of the day ahead of his championship rival.
The final race of the day saw Myburgh grab an early lead. He was challenged by Stadler and a determined Larsson. A late charge by Fourie saw him grab second place with two laps to go but it was too little too late as Myburgh pipped him to the line to claim the victory. Bezuidenhout also made a late charge to claim third.
Big Boss Auto Super Saloons’s poleman Ben Morgenrood (Ford Mustang) and Mackie Adlem (Jaguar)
An eventful start in the Big Boss Auto Super Saloons race saw poleman Ben Morgenrood (Ford Mustang) and Mackie Adlem (Jaguar) side by side through turn one. Devin Robertson (Chev Corvette) then grabbed second place when Adlem ran wide. Morgenrood went on to claim the Overall and GTA class win with Adlem recovering to take second place ahead of Robertson.
Jody Viana (Mazda RX8) claimed the GT3 honours with Jannie Breedt (Nissan) and Willie Erasmus (BMW M3) doing the same in classes GT4 and GT5 respectively.
Adlem made the most of his start in race two to take the lead ahead of Morgenrood and Amos Cockerham Junior (Chev Corvette). Despite a safety car period on lap four Adlem was able to hold on for the Overall and GTA class victory ahead of the experienced Morgenrood. Viana took the double in GT3 with Dalton taking the GT4 honours.
Erasmus followed Viana’s example as he claimed his second win in the GT5 class.

The Formula Monoposto group was the only single seater category on the day with a healthy field of cars lining up for the first race. Pole man Didier Diedericks (Formula M) grabbed an early lead ahead of John Maurien (Formula GTI) and Leon Scholtz (Formula Vee).
Diedericks didn’t put a foot wrong as he romped home to Overall and Formula M class B victory, with Scholtz grabbing second place and first in Formula Libre class C from Maurien on the penultimate lap of the race. Diedericks repeated the feat in the second race with Scholtz once again getting the better of Maurien.
The non-championship race of the Midvaal Historics saw Shawn Smidt (Datsun 160Y) take the overall win in front of Travis Jensen (Datsun 1200 GX) and Johan Swanepoel (Alfa). Each one also taking the victory in their respective classes.
The next round of the exciting Inland Championship will head back to where the series kicked off the year at the Zwartkops Raceway near Pretoria on 16 July 2016.
