The fourth round of the 2016 Inland Championship saw the Trofeo Challenge and Midvaal Historic categories head to the popular Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday 16 July with the biggest entry of the day. Another impressive entry of no less than thirty entries made for some action packed racing.
Race 1
The strong field of Trofeo Challenge and Midvaal Historics competitors
Pole man Martin Botha (Datsun GX Coupe) took the lead ahead of Jackie Morrison (Ford Escort) and Brendon Parker (Datsun GX Coupe). Mossie Mostert (Datsun GX Coupe) slotted into fourth position with Johan Prins (Datsun 160U) and Reghardt van Zyl (Alfa GTV) hot on his heels.
A determined Parker was up to second place before the end of the first lap. John Hendriks (Alfa Sud) was the best of the Trofeo Challenge brigade as he slotted into eighth position. Van Zyl picked up one spot when he passed Prins on lap three.
With numerous battles throughout the field there was action aplenty. When the chequered flag came out it was Botha who claimed a comfortable Overall and class E victory over Morrison and Parker. Fourth placed Mostert took the class F honours with eleventh placed Peder Jensen (Datsun 1200) taking class G. Fifth placed van Zyl took the class X win with sixteenth placed Henry Fourie (Alfa Berlina) taking class H. Hendriks held on to take the Trofeo Challenge win in tenth place overall.

Keagan Wessels (Pro) took the lead at the restart of the race with Divan Myburgh (Pro) and Jordan Larsson (Semi-Pro) in tow
The first race for the INEX Legends Championship was red flagged on the opening lap after a turn one incident. Keagan Wessels (Pro) took the lead at the restart of the race with Divan Myburgh (Pro) and Jordan Larsson (Semi-Pro) in tow. Larsson took second when Myburgh dropped back with a misfire allowing Seef Fourie (Pro) to slot into third as well. Fourie moved up to second a lap later and then proceeded to take the lead on the last lap to snatch victory from Wessels and Larsson.
Fourie grabbed an early lead in the second race and never looked back. A close battle behind him saw Divan taking second place ahead of his cousin Llewellyn Myburgh (Pro). Overall fourth placed Anro Stadler took the win in the Semi-Pro class while a mad dash for the line saw Masters winner Justin Robertson cross the line in 7th just behind Keagan Wessels and Clinton Bezuidenhout (Young Lion) and 0.017 of a second in front of Jordan Larsson.
The third and final race proved to be a cracker. The drama started on the opening lap when a three car pileup coming out of turn two brought out the red flag. Divan Myburgh took the lead at the restart with Clinton Bezuidenhout (Young Lion) and Fourie hot on his heels. Fourie moved up two places to take the lead on lap seven when Divan retired with engine problems. Wessels slotted into second with Justin Robertson (Master) getting the better of the rest of the pack to claim third.
The fifth round of the Inland Championship Roadshow will head to the popular Zwartkops Raceway on Saturday 16 July for another action packed event. The event marks the halfway point of the season with the various categories starting to reveal a number of championship favourites.
The INEX Legends Championship is expected to produce its usual blend of close and competitive wheel to wheel racing. Divan Myburgh has taken an early lead in the Pro class with Shaun Nel and Seef Fourie not too far behind him either. School girl Lonika Maartens currently leads the Semi Pro class with Anro Stadler and Shjaell Nel trying hard to stay in touch with her.
